President Rodrigo R. Duterte has accepted the resignation of Department of Justice (DoJ) Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II.

“[May] I just also tell you now that I conferred with the officials. I accepted the resignation of Vit Aguirre, my fraternity brother, as Secretary of Justice,” Mr. Duterte said in a speech on Thursday, April 5.

Messrs. Duterte and Aguirre are both members of the Lex Talionis Fraternitas of San Beda College.

Mr. Duterte said he is “now in the hustings looking for a replacement.”

Speculations circulated early this week that Mr. Aguirre was sacked by the President amid the dismissal of the charges against drug personalities Peter Go Lim, Rolan “Kerwin” Espinosa, Peter Co, and several others last month. — Minde Nyl R. Dela Cruz
